Hi Everyone

Thanks for all the concern about Laura. She seems to be recovering from
her bout with RSV. On the day we got her out of the hospital, we got the
results of the family member blood tests. It turns out that both of my
other daughters(4 and 5 years old) and my husband have anti-gliadin
antibodies (IgG and IgA). I'm the only one with negative serum results.
None of them seems to be particularly symptomatic at this point, though one
of the girls has been plagued with constipation. Laura's (2year old CD
patient) IgG AGA was <140, IgA AGA was 136. None of the antibody levels
of the other members of my family come close to this, though they were
definately positive by the test criteria. The blood tests were done by a
reputable lab, though I don't know that the blood was handled properly
during shipping. The girls are scheduled for biopsies, and my husband will
schedule his when he gets back from a business trip. I'm a bit confused
(and worried) because Laura's doctor told us (and I've also read on the
internet) that there was only a 5% to 10% chance that anybody else in our
family could have CD. I can see how perhaps one other family member with
latent CD might be picked up by the blood screening, but this is my whole
family. I know that there can be false positive results with the blood
test, but I thought that overall it was a pretty reliable indicator of CD.
Has anyone else ever had an experience like this? What were the results
after the biopsies? If the biopsy results are inconclusive or negative,
could the girls or my husband still have CD? Should they wait until they
are symptomatic to have the biopsies? Should I try to get the girls to eat
"more" gluten than usual before their biopsies? If they don't have CD,
that shouldn't hurt them, right? I think this business about the "more"
gluten sounds terrible, but since Laura has CD, I haven't been serving
meals the way I used to, ie we aren't having bread or rolls with dinner,
croutons on salads etc.

I hope someone out there can help give me some perspective.

Thanks
