I found this quite interesting. I was in for major surgery last year at a
well known Boston Hospital where I had 3 major surgeries in one for my back.
I was in the hospital for a total of 16 days and lost 20 lbs.

I instructed the dietacin, doctors, and nurses before hand and even gave
them a list of things that a Celiac could not eat. I was told from the
dietician that she had a complete list from some foundation and she was well
aware of Celiac Sprue. I had also told them that I could not have dairy
products. I was on an IV for 4 days so that wasn't bad but when they started
feeding me, I was brought milk, bread (wheat), crackers, at times cookies.
I even had my husband bring me in some Balance Bars and salad dressing. I
couldn't believe it they wouldn't even give me the salad dressing that was
brought in. My surgeon was getting upset because I was losing weight so he
sent down the dietician to see me and she brought along her pamphlet for
Celiacs. It was a pamphlet dated back to 1990 and was worthless. I gave
her another list and she said it would be followed.

All I can say that it was never followed even after all that. I may need to
have another bone fusion within the year. Because of osteoperosis, I have a
disc that completely disintegrated again and am in a lot of pain. Not sure
what I am going to do about the hospital situation. This time it would only
be a fusion so that I probably won't be in the hospital as long but it is
pretty frustrating.
