Dear listmates-

My thanks to everyone who responded.

Asofoetida is a powder, actually of a gum or resin of a
plant related to giant fennel. It is used in Indian (East
Indian, I think) cooking. Smells bad - tastes good.

Penn Herb claims theirs is pure Asofoetida, according to the
 milling manager.

Frontier Herb Company has the powder of 25% Asofoetida,
25% gum arabic, and 50% rice flour.

The Spice House, recommended to me by one list member,
has rice flour AND wheat in it - unknown to this list member.
Hope she stops buying it. It does have gluten in it.

Have a great day, everyone!

Vicki
