Dear List Members, I have been subscribing to this list for several
months, and I have responded to some of you. This is my first post to
the list. A little history about me: I was diagnosed with celiac when
I was 2 years old. I did have a biopsy. I am now 26 years old. Before
I was diagnosed, my symptoms were weight loss, crankiness, diarrhea, and
very foul smelling stools (according to my grandmother). Later (still a
young child) my reaction to gluten was vomiting 2 hours after eating
anything with gluten. The last time I vomited because of accidentally
eating gluten was when I was 16 years old. Lately, (now as an adult) I
have been having trouble with stomach aches and diarrhea. I had thought
this was a reaction to gluten because all my life I have been having to
avoid gluten. Therefore, I thought that is what is making me feel bad.
My doctor wasn't so sure.

Well, I went to a gastroenterologist (GI doctor) yesterday. I have
not been to a GI doctor since being diagnosed because my parents were
told to keep me on the diet and I would be fine. Anyway, my doctor told
me that vomiting was not a celiac reaction. I thought, "What?" He did
a blood test because he wanted to make sure that I really do have
celiac. I guess he wanted to confirm my prior diagnosis. He said the
test is very accurate, and if I have celiac I would still have the
antibody for gluten.

    My questions:

(1) Does anyone else vomit after eating something with gluten?

(2) What age is the person with this reaction--child or adult?

(3) I would welcome any info you have about the blood test I took--I
think it is called anti-endomyosial. I am not sure how to spell it, but
it is something like that.

Thanks so much in advance.

Carrie
