HEALTH HAZARD ALERT --ENER-G BRAND BREADS AND LOAVES MAY
 CONTAIN DANGEROUS BACTERIA

OTTAWA, February 28, 1999 --The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning
 the public not to consume all lots of the following products sold under the
 brand name ENER-G.  These products may contain the bacteria responsible for
 Botulism in humans.

The affected products include:

1. White Rice Loaf (Gluten-Free)   UPC 0 75119 14570 6

2. Yeast-Free Brown Rice Loaf (Gluten-Free)   UPC 0 75119 14582 9

3. High Fibre Bread (Gluten-Free)  UPC 0 75119 14589 8

4. Gluten-Free Potato Loaf (Wheat-Free)  UPC 0 75119 14572 0

5. Raisin Bread (Wheat-Free, Gluten-Free, Non-Dairy)  UPC 0 75119 14575 1

6. Raisin Bread Without Eggs (Wheat-Free, Gluten-Free) UPC not available

7. Tapioca Bread (Gluten-Free) UPC 0 75119 04910 3

8. Brown Rice Loaf (Without Gluten, Lactose, Milk, Wheat or Wheat
Starch) UPC  0 7511914571 3

9. Yeast-Free White Rice Loaf (Gluten-Free) UPC 0 75119 14577 5

This alert follows an earlier recall of ENER-G brand Gluten-Free Potato Loaf,
 lot number 101499.

Botulism is a life-threatening illness caused by the build-up of toxins
 produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria.

The CFIA is working with importers to recall all affected product from the
 marketplace.  The products are sold throughout Canada.

Food contaminated with C.  botulinum bacteria may not look or smell spoiled.
 If consumers have any remaining product they should return it to the point
 of purchase.  The product should not be consumed by humans or animals.
