>Consumer Reports just did a review of several brands including the
>Zojirushi and Welbilt (their December issue).

The article said that they are going to do a follow-up on the Hitachi Bread
Machines, since they were unavailable at the time they went to press. I
called Consumer Union today (914-378-2740) to ask them if they could also
test the Red Star Machine and to ask them if they could test the machines
with gluten free flour. I then had to explain to the individual at CU what
GF was. I explained Celiac Sprue to him, told him that there were hundreds
of thousands of people affected, and explained why we really needed bread
machines (other than just wanting to smell fresh bread in the morning). He
put the suggestion in his computer. Perhaps if more of us called with
similar requests, they would do testing with GF flour. When you call, you
might mention Bette Hagman's book for GF bread machine recipes, Ener-G
Foods or Dietary Specialties, Inc. for bread mixes. I forgot to tell them
where they could find recipes. They're there from 9:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST
M-F. Don't underestimate the power of the phone calls. I recall from my
marketing classes in college, that if one person calls a manufacturer, they
assume that hundreds of people feel the same way.
