Celiac Disease and Celiac Sprue are the same thing. It could have been an
honest mistake on your doctor's part because he may have confused it with
tropical sprue, which is different from celiac disease or celiac sprue. We
should all do our best to better educate doctors regarding celiac disease,
including some specialists. The doctor who originally diagnosed me (he
spent over two years to figure it out!) told me that he hasn't missed a
diagnosis since, and since my diagnosis he has found it in over 20 of his
patients. His first CD diagnosis was mine. He told me that he read about
himself on my Web page and did his best to learn more about CD so he would
not miss it again. I guess the moral of the story is to be patient with
people about CD (after all, it is still a fairly rare and mysterious
disorder to most people), and be willing to teach anyone more about it,
including doctors.
