GRAPHIC SYMPTOMS DESCRIPTIONS, YOU MAY WANT TO DELETE THIS MESSAGE IF YOU ARE
SENSITIVE, SORRY !

I am a middle aged self-diagnosed celiac. Many doctors failed to pick up on
my symptoms over the years and I finally read about CD and presented to my
gastroenterologist who determined I had a "slight case" of CD, whatever that
is.

(After I had lost 25 pounds in four weeks, etc, all the classic symptoms.
Now, here is my problem. I have been GF for about three years. I have
finally been showing some weight gain and reduction in lactose intolerance,
etc. Things have been going much better.

Then, last week I went on vacation to California. I apparently got some
gluten in either a salad or a rack of lamb at one of the finest restaurants
in Palm Springs. Anyhow, I have only been that sick once in my life. I was
SERIOUSLY sick, forgive the graphic description that follows......I had
horrible pain in two areas of my lower back, (I think my kidneys?), felt very
uncoordinated almost to the point of falling over, head spinning etc.

Then finally, after about 12 hours I started to throw up. I threw up about
twenty times in the next half-hour. And I mean so violently that I had to
press my chest against the toilet bowl because I thought I was going to tear
my guts out, literally.

I was throwing up large pieces of food, apparently undigested from 24 to 48
hours earlier...small chunck of ham from a ham omlet, large pieces of lamb
from lamp chops, etc.

The reason I am being so specific is that I have drawn the following
conclusions.....apparently after ingesting the gluten my stomach digestive
process completely shut down (explaining the large particles of food). The
process of throwing up can only be described as "projectile" vomiting, a term
I have heard associated with this disease...and which seems to be a result of
complete lack of digestive fluids in my stomach.

After about twelve more hours with my wife mopping my brow with a cold cloth
and dragging me into bed with a grey color that she described as looking
"dead", I recovered slowing. It actually took me the rest of the week to
fully recover., and I have been very sensitive since then to any change in
what I eat...no eggs, no lactose, no soy, etc, etc.

The question, since I am self diagnosed...doesn't this seem like "typical"
celiac behavior and shall I finally stop worrying whether I really have CD or
one of its mimic diseases.

I trully am sorry for the graphic description, but I have never been that
sick and I attribute the reaction to my being completely off gluten and
having absolutely no tolerence for it at all.

Does anyone think I am on the right track, or am I nuts?

Please reply to me personally, expecially folks from the medical community.

Thanks, thanks, thanks,
Taylor Cushmore
