Below is the exchange I had when inquiring about Arrowhead Mills Corn Flakes after the recent post revealing that the puffed cereals are run on gluten contaminated machines that are "unfortunately" not always cleaned between runs. I imagine that they are being honest in all these communications, and that the bottom line is that even with what I imagine to be random testing for gluten, sometimes a contaminated batch is going to make it to the shelves. The very sensitive among us must beware!
Take Care.

Hilary, I apologize if my original e-mail did not address the gluten testing issue adequately!
ALL of our products that we list as gluten-free, whether or not they are made by us or by a co-packer, are tested before being released for sale. This does include all incoming shipments of our Puffed Corn, Rice and Millet.
I hope this clarifies this issue. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to let me know.

  Lynda,
Thanks for the detailed reply. Do you have a list of the gluten free products that are tested before being released? If I have understood correctly, the Corn Flakes are tested, but the puffed rice and puffed corn are not yet on that testing system? (hence my request for a list of what you are considering to be safely gf).
  Thanks.
  Hilary

Hillary, thank you for contacting us regarding the gluten-free status of our Corn Flakes.
Ideally, we would like to be able to produce all of our gluten-free products on dedicated equipment in an isolated area. However, such is not currently feasible. However, we have been aware of the need to avoid cross contamination for many, many years, and have enforced cleaning and production procedures in place to achieve this.
Because we share this concern for cross-contamination with our consumers who must adhere to a gluten-free diet, we recently installed a state-of-the-art testing laboratory in our Quality Control offices in Hereford. ALL gluten-free products are automatically put on hold (i.e. not allowed to be shipped) until they are tested, and are only released for shipping if the tests confirm their gluten-free status. We are also implementing this for all incoming shipments of gluten-free products from co-packers, such as our Puffed Corn, as well as all incoming raw ingredients that are to be used in gluten-free products. We hope that this assures our celiac consumers that we are striving to produce the purest, safest foods possible for their diet.
If you have any further questions, please let us know.

p..s our own website, www.arrowheadmills.com is currently under construction. We hope to have it completed later this year.
