Hi everyone and especially the person who was asking about UTIs and celiac
disease on an earlier e-mail:

I just discovered a connection between celiac disease and urinary tract
infections (UTI) from www.mayoclinic.com- you can read the association by
first doing a search for "celiac", then clicking on "complications". Under
"complications" is kidney stones. If you do a search under "kidney stones",
you find a reading under the caption, "Screening and Diagnosis". It says,
"...the majority of kidney stones are diagnosed when a person complains of
severe kidney pain, chronic urinary tract infections or blood in the urine."
I also spoke to a friend's wife who is a urologist who told me that if I
am suspecting that I am malabsorbing calcium (which I indeed am suspecting),
she said that the calcium will bind with oxalates and form calcium stones.
Since my discussion with her, I am slowly taking in calcium supplementation
at a much lower rate than the recommended daily allowance not only with the
stone concern in mind but because I get painful cramping in my lower abdomen
from calcium supplements.

Have a Merry X-mas!

By the way, does anyone know the specialist who does bone density tests?
Laura
