Jim, The primary source of iodine in the diet is iodized salt. Choose salt
that is not iodized. The other sources are high in iodine are dairy
products, seafood, egg yolks, and red food coloring. Iodine is also in foods
that have any of the following words on their label: iodized salt, sea salt,
iodates, iodides, algen, alginates, carrageenan, agar, erythrosine (FD & C
Red No. 3). Water may contain iodine. Contact your local water company to
find out. If so you may need to drink bottled water. The only other source
of any consequence is vitamin and minerals supplements that may contain
iodine.

Hope this helps.

Dear Jim,
Before I was diagnosed 25 years ago with CD/DH, on several
occasions I had violent and life threatening reactions to shell
fish (lobster, clams, etc.) even though I only ingested a small
amount. Later I found out that it was the high iodine content in
shell fish that caused this reaction with me as CD. I don't know
very much about this, would like to know more, but because of my
reaction to iodine, I avoid it like the plague. The gluten free
diet has relieved me of all problems of CD and DH.
I will appreciate more information about iodine reactions.

Hi Jim,
I don't know how others react. I had an injection of a contrast solution
with iodine in it, and I had considerable difficulty breathing.
Best Wishes, Ron Hoggan

RON's STATEMENT REMINDED ME OF MY EXPERIENCE WITH A CAT SCAN,
I ALL MOST LOST IT [ I felt extremely hot, had difficulty breathing, and
it took all my concentration to lay there until they were done] AFTER
THEY GAVE ME A SHOT OF IODINE FOR THE SCAN, AT THE TIME I THOUGHT IT WAS
NORMAL. I STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT MEANS IF ANYTHING.
