Thanks to everyone for the response to the question about my 17 month
old daughter's low ph levels (4 out of a scale of 6). Here is a summary:

It could be a malabsorption still because it takes more than a few
months to recover after going on the gf diet.

It could be a related lactose intolerance - this could cause
malabsorption even if gluten is eliminated. What is not known is
whether or not other sugars can interfere with absorption (sucrose,
fructose in addition to lactose). Try a lactose free diet for a month,
then do a stool retest to check ph levels.

You may want to get in touch with Dr. Finer.www.enterolab.com

Don't do the invasive procedure without getting a second opinion.

(Here is what I have done: will be consulting a second physician, will
try the lactose free diet for a month, will consult with Dr. Fine and
try non-invasive tests from Enterolab (includes a genetic test and a
stool test). What I need help with is figuring out a lactose free diet
for Jessie, who loves cheese and yogurt. Is butter lactose free?).

Thank you for all your help.

Rhonda
