I have been aware (from BusinessWeek) that General Mills was working on a
web site where one can create their own cereal. But it hadn't been working
yet. But now it is. Go to:

http://www.mycereal.com/

Here is an explanation from a newsgroup participant:

MyCereal.com is giving out free cereal right now. The pass code is
BLENDSFORALL. I went on there today and they have really good ingredient
info, and lots of options for people with soy, nut, or wheat allergies.
Once you use the pass code, you set up an account, create your cereal
blend, and then get a week's worth of it for free. Of course the shipping
makes it actually come to around $5, but I though it was worth it. You
can continue to order from there, but after the first time, it's no
longer free. I don't know how long this code works for, but my neighbor
said she ordered with it a few days ago, and it worked for me yesterday.

My comments: I selected wheat-free. Gluten-free was not a choice. I have to
wonder about contamination issues, though they are asking about allergies,
and some of the allergic ingredients are more deadly to people allergic to
them than gluten is to us. Then when given the choice of ingredients I was
shown all sorts of ones with wheat. Did it forget that I selected that I
was allergic to wheat? Anyway, I selected some ingredients, and the next
screen had "We're sorry! The ingredients you selected either contain an
ingredient you have identified as an allergen or will make a blend that is
nutritionally imbalanced. Please go back to 'my taste' and choose different
ingredients." But, but, which was it, and what ingredients did I select
that had wheat? I selected corn squares, rice squares and three types of
fruit. Is that nutritionally unbalanced?

Anyway, I don't eat cereal on my paleo diet. But I do think people should
check it out and write to them with their comments, and maybe they will be
able to make it a resource that is useful to celiacs.

Don.
