Hi List,

Thanks you for all of your responses:

While no one had any actual experience with Librax and pregnancy, I was
given a few other things to consider as well. Such as diet, Nutrition, and
difficulty's with pregnancy and childbirth that seems to stem from being a
celiac. Thus, we have alot more to consider.

It was pointed out how very important Folic Acid was to the fetus. Some
felt if one didn't get enough of Folic acid, It could cause damage to the
Nuero Tube. Librax can cause damage to the Nuero tube as well.It has been
proven BY FDA that Librax or any type of medication related to that family
of drugs can cause damage to the fetus's Nuero tube as well, if it is taken
with in the first 3 months of Pregnancy. However, I could not pinpoint a
percentage.

A couple of people told me thier experience with pregnancy. One told me
that her doctor had her taking narcotics for another medical problem. Which
she reluctanly took and still regrets. She pointed out she may never know
how it effected her child.

I have come to the conclusion that only time will tell. At this point,
this in Gods hands, and with Gods will, a healthy child will emerge.
Whatever is meant to be will be. I can't help what I didn't know. But I
will take every precation possible to ensure this baby come out healthy.

You all gave me a lot factors to consider. Frankly some you scared
me.Others gave thier opinion which was not asked for, and in some cases,
not appriciated. I asked information to help guide me, not opinions, tongue
lashings or ones set of values & morals. This is tuff enough with out that.
My, My, It's amazing that our parents and ancesters ever gave birth to
healthy children. Let alone an had an "unplanned pregnancy" had they been
armed with a little knowledge, most of us wouldn't be here. If they had any
say in the matter.

There were a few that stated that no one ever knows the full outcome or
type of side effects that occur and may never be found as connected to.

Here are a few samples.

If you are still having digestive problems, you should have your folic acid
levels checked BEFORE you get pregnant. The March of Dimes has found that
low levels of folic acid cause neural tube defects in FIRST weeks after
conception. By the time you realize you are pregnant, it's to late to
supplement.

Unfortunately, this happened to a celiac I know who missed a pill & had a
unplanned pregnancy. The damage to the baby was so severe that they
terminated the pregnancy. After solving the folic acid problem, they tried
again & had a healthy baby. Very sad, and very preventable--had they know
before hand.

all meds are too dangerous during pregnacy

I have celiac which I found out about the same time I found out I was
pregnant. My daughter is 7 months old and doing just great. I was very
careful with my diet during the pregnancy and still am as I am nusing her.
From what I have read, celiac mother's have an increased chance of preterm
labor and low birth weight babies. My Dr. was very careful to watch the
baby's growth and did 2 extra ulrtasounds for a total of 5 to verify that
the birthweight was on track. She was 7lb 13.5 oz so that was not a
problem. I did start some signs of preterm labor about 28 weeks and was
put on modified bedrest. Basically I got to go to work and do nothing
else! At 36 weeks, I was given the go ahead to do whatever I wanted, but I
was so tired by that time, I didn't resume exercising, just ran more
errands. My daughter was 2 days late, so I guess I didn't run around
enough :-)

I'm a nurse and I just looked up this drug in my drug book. Librax is a
combo drug -- chlordiazepoxide and clidinium. Chlordiazepoxide is
Pregnancy Category D meaning that it is proven to cause birth defects (by
the FDA) and its use is strongly discouraged during pregnancy. This should
be discussed with your MD -- GI and OB/GYN. They may have options for
other meds that are safer during pregnancy.

I don't know about the Librax, but if you're celiac and pregnant you should
surely take folic acid. We tend to have problems assimilating that one and
its absence makes us anemic and can cause spina bifida in the babies. But
very simple to correct. Do not take more than 800 mcg (that's not mg) per
day

was an undiagnosed celiac when I was pregnant.

I had gestational diabetes with both my pregnancies and after my first
pregnancy, developed Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I also experienced heavy
bleeding in the beginning of each pregnancy, cramping and at the end had
premature opening of the cervix and quick labors. Both my children now
have celiac disease. It is now my personal mission to push for prenatal
testing for celiac

*********************************************

I was diagnosed as a celiac after giving birth. My complications were
overwhelming fatigue (which did not concern my doctors and I did manage to
keep working) and during delivery a lot of bleeding. I read somewhere since
that the bleeding might have been caused by a lack of a vitamin -- K
perhaps. This vitamin deficiency could be caused by celiac.
