Hi everyone

I asked the question "Anyone with MS?" (multiple sclerosis) and found that a
number of people with CD mentioned that a family member has MS. Here are
some of the responses!

From California: My celiac friend Betty also has M.S. She went up to Oregon
and was treated by Dr. Swank. She follows his diet and is doing real well.
She would highly recommend his books. Several books were recommended so
E-mail me if the list is of interest.

From Tracey: And, I do have a mini-list of people with neurological issues
that are GF and have the neuro issue due to gluten ... Results met "With
astounding success "

Ron writes: I don't know anyone on the list in that situation, but I'm
involved in a volunteer organization trying to put funds together to run a
clinical trial on dietary intervention in MS. Ashton Embry's essay on that
topic is very informative. I have neuropathic celiac disease, which bears a
striking resemblance to MS. Also, the other board members either have MS or
a close relative with MS. Perhaps one of them can be of assistance, if you
are looking for more information

From <[log in to unmask]>: I was diagnosed with MS last March, and started a
GF diet in August. If your friend would like to e-mail me directly

From Michael: Yes I suffer from it, and being gluten free helps. You
can check out these links:

From Janet: I have celiac disease and my son has MS. He tried the gluten
free diet when first diagnosed, I think for about a year, though I doubt it
was pure. He did finally go into remission and amazingly has stayed on his
feet since 1972. ...

From Sue:I was recently diagnosed with celiac this year. My mother has had
MS for 20+ years and we are just starting her on a special diet for MS
sufferers

From Patti: I had the classic symptoms of MS such as heat intolerance,
muscle twitching, spasms, numbness and tingling. I used a cane when walking,
had vision problems, headaches, extreme weakness etc, the list is long. My
MRI was questionable, my spinal tap was normal. After much research I found
that there is a neuropathic celiac condition. I had nothing to lose by
trying a GF diet. With in four days of eating GF I could walk and think much
better. Within a few months I bought a bike. I also found that there were
other foods that caused problems, I don't eat dairy or grains of ANY kind.
Also no food additives, preservatives or colorings. Gluten causes me the
worst problems. An accidental ingestion causes my old MS symptoms to return
and takes about five days before I am feeling better again. I believe that
there is a definite connection between MS and CD! Check out

there is an article called MS and gluten/casin that might be helpful, maybe
some others there too.
