Thanks to those that sent their advice and experiences. It seems there are several differing treatments. Several believed a period of twenty four to forty eight hours was required to clear the gluten out before treatment was taken to stop it usually a diastop type drug. Some believed no treatment at all was advisable, and one believed no change in diet as it settled itself after several days. But by far the most used a compound called Bentonite Clay or Montmorillonite depending on the manufacturers branding. This substance absorbs the toxins and impurities in the stomach and intestines, stopping the diarrhoea without drugs. It appears the reduction of the toxins stops the body from attempting to flush the intestinal tract and thus returns to normal before electrolyte damage has taken place.
