At Costco yesterday, I saw a product I have never seen before: RiceWorks
Brown Rice Crisp. "Gluten Free" was printed largely on the front of the
package. Of course I got excited and bought the product for our 4 year old Celiac
daughter. I thought they would be along the lines of the Lundberg Rice Chips,
but something new for her to try.
Before opening the package I read the ingredients (which I usually do at the
store, but not yesterday). OAT FIBER was listed in the ingredients.
I emailed the company, and their response is below. My questions are
whether or not OAT FIBER is really safe, and if anyone has indeed tried these chips?
I plan on returning them anyway, because in addition to OAT FIBER, they
include MSG and many other yucky ingredients.

Here is their response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I would like to apologize for any concern you may have had regarding the
labeling of our riceWORKS chips. I would like to assure you that the product is
gluten free.

The oat ingredient we have listed on the label is an oat fiber, a
carbohydrate product with all protein (and therefore gluten) removed. The supplier of
the ingredient has provided me with a letter from an independent food safety
specialist who assessed the product. He indicated there was no risk of the
provocation of celiac disease from ingesting this product.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any further questions or
concerns.
