Dear Listmates,

I received many replies to my search for a celiac awareness bracelet. Many
thanks!

Several people suggested I use a medic alert bracelet. This was a good
suggestion but not what I was looking for. My daughter already wears a medic
alert bracelet for Type 1 Diabetes. I'm looking for a second grader's
"just-to-die-for" silicone band like Lance Armstrong's yellow "LiveStrong"
ones. (Note: if you don't have a medic alert bracelet, necklace or card,
consider getting one. Sometimes you aren't able to speak up for yourself in
an emergency.)

One person liked the idea and thought they might work on it in a
silversmithing class they were taking.

About a dozen people asked to let them know if I found one.

Jax Lowell said she was partial to my "Against the Grain" suggestion. This
was not too suprising since she wrote the book by that name! Hi Jax, I
loved your book!

One woman's daughter was working on a fundraising/service project and had
investigated the possibility of creating a bracelet with with the phrase
"R.O.C.K. ON" which I think is a fantastic idea. I sincerely hope she goes
through with this. I told her I would buy several if she did. If you are
interested, send me a note and I will pass it on to her.

Then someone sent the name of a contact at the Center for Celiac Research
who will announce this week that they will have a bracelet (bright green)
available very soon. I've already ordered a dozen!

So, keep an eye on this list. I will forward the info when it's posted to
those who asked to be notified if I found a source.

One last thing, since 5% of all people with Type 1 diabetes have CD, I
figure there are lots of diabetics on this list. The Children With Diabetes
organization has a beautiful red Type 1 Diabetes awareness bracelet with the
words "INSULIN IS NOT A CURE". The cost is $5 (U.S. shipping included.) A
portion of the proceeds will be given to the Diabetes Research Institute
Foundation. You can find an order blank at:

Thanks to all who responded. You all are the best!
