Summery of places to eat in Asheville, North Carolina and Charleston, South Carolina. Thank you to everyone who responded. I appreciate all the wonderful help we all get from the people belonging to this list. Also I would like to wish all of you in the path of hurricane Katrina good luck and my prayers are with you.

Thanks again,

Rita

ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA

I enjoyed a wonderful meal at the Bistro at Biltmore. It ajoins the winery. They were very familiar with CD and prepared me a wonderful dinner.

We vacationed in Asheville this July and can vouch for the Laughing Seed in downtown Asheville on Wall Street. They had a number of gluten-free entrees and the waitress went over every item on the menu with us. Very helpful people, good atmosphere, eclectic choice of entrees.

I live in Asheville and love to eat out. My mother, husband and daughter are on a GF diet. Here are some suggestions:
Inexpensive:
Urban Burrito (3 locations) - black beans, rice with toppings (salsa, guac, cheese, etc) The pineapple salsa is especially good.
Indian Garden - great lunch buffet, ingredients are listed above items.
Dinner is more expensive and more difficult to find out ingredients
EarthFare - good buffet, ingredients are listed above items
Greenlife - yummy, labelled GF desserts
Cocula Mexican restaurant - chicken soup, nachos fajitas with chicken or
beef, shrimp taco (comes in corn torillas) are our personal favorites
We have several Thai restaurants - Thai Basil, Jae and Thai Kitchen.

They are all great. Let me know if you like Thai and would like to know more information on these.
I do not know about Biltmore Estate food. There is an excellent Middle Eastern restaurant nearby that my mother enjoys. It is more expensive but she has no trouble finding GF foods there. The name of the
restaurant is Rezaz. It is walking distance from the entrance to the Estate.

I forgot to mention an excellent restaurant that is very near the Estate. It is less than 5 minutes from the Estate. The name of the restaurant is Apollo Flame. It is a Greek restaurant. We get the Greek Salad with Grilled Chicken. Are you traveling with children? If so, my 4 year old gets a side of grilled chicken with potato chips.
It is her favorite restaurant. It is very popular so it is often very crowded at peak meal times. It is closed on Sundays.

I go through Ashville to Knoxville where I am originally from.On a traveling trip I usually go to McDonald's at the Ashville exit on I-26.I get the grilled chicken salad, fries and you can get plain vanilla ice cream.

Charleston, South Carolina
I live in North Charleston but basically we have the same restaurants as anywhere else. Appleby's, Texas Steer, Texas Longhorn, The Outback Steakhouse and there are Ryan's Steakhouses all over with a great hot bar.
Since I have diabetes I get the petite grilled chicken(plain), French fries, fruit bar and ice cream for 4.89 or you can get a petite sirloin steak for the same price. The hot bar is 8.99 on the weekend and 6.99 during the week.
A whole foods representative came to our support group meeting last Monday. Their store is in Mt Pleasant which is still considered Charleston but a few miles east of downtown. Whole foods is my favorite and we have the only one in the state.
