Victoria Ancona wrote requesting information about the connection between
celiac disease and cystic fibrosis.

I discovered that the connection existed by myself. When I was doing
research to find out what my basic problem was (because the doctors only
treated the symptoms), I came to the conclusion that, for me, eating gluten
causes asthma and pneumonia. I had been plagued with severe breathing
problems and respiratory infections all my life.

After more research I discovered that more than one gene has been identified
in connection with cystic fibrosis, and that most of the "non-standard" genes
were found in people not diagnosed as infants with CF, but who came to the
attention of CF specialists later in life. Their histories were similar to
but milder than those of typical CF patients.

I would be glad to share information with anyone who wants to pursue this
avenue of research. I also am a recipient on the cystic fibrosis list at
StJohns.
