This bill would create a uniform national food safety and labeling standards; and give the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority to establish national food safety and warning requirements.

This bill, or a version of it, has been around for about 6 years. I have not read this version, and therefore can't comment on the merits of the legislation.

That being said, it will not have any bearing on the new food labeling law which went into effect in January. The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act provides for uniform labeling for allergens.
