I recently requested information about places to eat in DC while travelling
with my daughter's Girl Scout troop. The majority of the posts I received
suggested the restaurant at the Museum of the American Indian, but that was
not on our itinerary and not practical for our schedule. Here are the places
we actually did eat. I post this with the caveat that when we are
travelling, we are not meticulous about the GF status of foods. We rely on
our experience and intuition and whatever information we are able to get from
restaurant staff. That being said, my celiac daughter was fine throughout
the trip.

Food Court at the Old Post Office -- this place had a wide variety of
offerings -- we opted for the Mexican stand, but did not spend much time
checking out what GF food the other stands might have had.

Food Court at the National Aeronautic and Space Museum -- a limited-selection
McDonald's provided lunch here. Fresh fruit is available. Arrive early or
late to avoid the huge lunch crowd!

Thunder Grill at Union Station -- A sit-down restaurant willing to
accommodate our group of 15 on 30 minutes' notice! The barbecued brisket
sandwich without bread was quite good!

Burger Joe's -- this is a hamburger/hotdog place in Springfield, Virginia
that delivered to our hotel. Great hamburgers and hot dogs, even without the
bun, and the fries were good, too.

Our menus were heavy on hotdogs and hamburgers, but we were there to
site-see, not to eat!

During the bus trip to DC our buses stopped at an exit with only a
Chick-Fil-A and a Taco Bell. We hiked a couple of blocks to a 7-11
convenience store and got a pretty good dinner of lunch meat, cheese, chips,
FRESH FRUIT, and fruit juice. Much healthier than what everyone else had,
plus my daughter got a good lesson in being self-reliant and resourcefull !
