Hi everyone!
One of the responses to my survey on "eliminating dapsone",
which was referenced in my summary, indicated that dapsone is a steroid.
That information is incorrect. Dapsone is a sulfa drug, and with
potentially serious side effects, but it is not a steroid. For further
information on dapsone, search keyword "dapsone" using your search
engine.
Also, with the information and encouragement that so many of you
have provided, I have begun my effort to "eliminate dapsone". I have
reduced my daily dapsone intake from 50 mg/day with occasional doses of
100 mg to control the itching (all prior to beginning a gluten free diet
in January), to 25 mg/day. I have been on that dosage for little more
than a week, with some small amount of discomfort (some itching & a few
blisters) on knees and elbows. I'm using some OTC cream to help with
that.
I don't know if I will be successful at this time, but I need to
find out. Thank you all again for your help.
