Last weekend, after a 12 hour stay in the ER, my mom was hospitalized
for dehydration related to massive diarrhea (probably related to a, yes
GF, med) with the 90 heat and humidity not helping. I went home and got
food, inc. jello, that I knew she would be able to eat. The staff dealt
well with this (along with her GF meds from home) and me rooming in so
we would know that she would get OK stuff. All went well until we were
about to leave Monday. A secretary came running down the hall, saying
she would be getting her CARDIAC diet for lunch. I said CELIAC not
cardiac and she started to argue with me. (I won). Anyway, after saying
I knew it (that they would mess it up), I figured cardiac/celiac both
begin and end with a "c" and have a tall letter in between, so that's
how they managed it. When I went back to work (I am a nurse in that
hospital), I checked the dietary order menu and sure enough that's what
they had done (no such thing as a celiac diet, it's GF). Just thought
I'd like to share this sad in many ways, but also humorous story (we all
know about questioning, questioning, questioning) about how she probably
would not have had to worry about her salt or fat levels as she would
probably gotten a big bowl of wheat filled pasta!
