Hi,

I thought fellow members of the list would like to read what Best Foods
has to say about their products. Best Foods manufactures Hellman's/Best
Foods mayonaisse, Argo cornstarch, Karo corn syrup and Skippy Peanut Butter.

In a letter dated September 5, 2001 they write...

"...Bestfoods focuses on the eight most common allergies identified by
both the US FDA and the Food Allergy Network (FAN). These are eggs, milk
and dairy products, wheat, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish.
In addition, any ingredient that may contain gluten, such as wheat, rye,
oats or barley is also listed.

All ingredient declaration statements accurately reflect every allergen
in the product regardless of its level.  This includes individual
components of complec ingredients, meaning there ar no "hidden sources"
of an allergen.  If any gluten or dairy-containing ingredient was used
in the process, it would be declared on the label...."

This is good news for celiacs. (The phone number for Best Foods is 1-800-

Also, this morning, Celestial Seasonings told me that in the future they
plan to mark "Gluten Free" right on their products so it'll be easier
for us to tell which of their products are safe. Their phone number is 1-
