Are you looking for other celiacs in your area?

Are you hoping to find celiac-friendly restaurants and health food
stores while you are on vacation?

Do you need to know a good GI specialist for some out-of-town relative
who might also have celiac disease?

The best people to answer these questions are celiacs who live in the
the same area. And the best place to look for these people is in a
series of reference files, available from the listserve.

You can go to the World Wide Web to find our local support group
listings, at this URL:

   http://rdz.acor.org/lists/celiac/index.html#support

You can also get the files you want via e-mail, by sending a note to
[log in to unmask] with the appropriate command(s). (These
commands are explained below.)

The United States listings have gotten too large to keep in a single
file, so we now have a separate file for each of the 50 states and for
Washington, DC. These files are named GRPUS-ss, with the "ss" being the
standard 2-letter abbreviation for the state, as used by the US postal
service. So, if you were going on vacation to the Grand Canyon and were
seeing other sites in Nevada, Utah, and Arizona, you could get a list of
local contacts from these states by sending these commands in a note to
the St. Johns e-mail address listed above:

   GET CELIAC GRPUS-NV
   GET CELIAC GRPUS-UT
   GET CELIAC GRPUS-AZ

Listings for Canada, Finland, Italy, and the national USA groups can
be found in files named GROUPScc, with the "cc" being the standard
2-letter country abbreviation (CA, FI, IT, or US).

All other country listings can be found in the GROUPSIN reference file.
So, if you decided to take a jaunt over to Finland and Norway, you could
get a list of contacts by sending these commands in a note to the St.
Johns e-mail address listed above:

   GET CELIAC GROUPSFI
   GET CELIAC GROUPSIN

If you need help for an area for which there are no contacts listed, or
if the listed contacts are unable to answer your questions, then you can
try posting your question to the CELIAC list. Just be sure to include
the location in the post's subject; for example, "Looking for
restaurants in Wheeling, West Virginia". And PLEASE try the local
contacts first; this list is so busy that many subscribers have trouble
keeping up with the daily mail.

Incidentally, if you know of groups or contacts that are not listed,
please send me an e-mail note at <[log in to unmask]> and let me know about
them.
