- A few months ago I was browsing the home page of this list site. I
clicked
on symptoms of celiac and this is what it said:
"Reactions to ingestion of gluten can be immediate, or delayed for weeks
or
even months."
I posted a question regarding that statement and never got any clear
answers. My concern was how was I supposed to keep track of foods eaten
weeks or even months earlier and know which one cause the reaction.
So I believe that 3 days is not out of the question for a reaction.

- It can even take a week for gluten to make one ill

- I had a gluten infraction a week ago. My hubby bought some
Johnsonville Beer Brats (because he wanted to try them). Our house is
totally gluten free, as my son and I are both Celiac's. Well, maybe we
are not totally
gluten free, hubby buys the frozen pizza's. Other than that, NO GLUTEN
in this house! What little gluten we have in the house is obvious. I did
not know about the Brat's. We cook a lot on the grill and reheat in the
oven.
We had ribs, chicken and the deadly brats in a container. I reheated one
of the 'gluten brats' and ate it. Boy was it good!!! Yum Yum!!!!! Within
a couple of hours I had explosive diarrhea. A week later, I am still
having
diarrhea! I had NO CLUE that I had an infraction. DH made a very big
mistake. I mentioned to him about the diarrhea and the sausage. "What
sausage?" he says. "Why the sausage in the container?" he says: "Oh, you

ate that?" "Yeah" "Oh, that was a beer sausage. Gee I was wondering
where it went." DUH!!!! I told him that labeling a gluten item would be
nice, especially since our house is totally gluten free (except for the
frozen
pizza's). Even bread is gluten free. My hubby get's his gluten OUTSIDE
of the house. Go figure. I am still suffering. So yes, it is possible to
have a gluten reaction three days later.

- Anything is possible, but it is more unlikely that it is a gluten
reaction.  We all have to be careful to consider that some things are
just what they seem to be--a tummy virus is possible even in a Celiac.
We tend to credit CD with everything.

- My daughter has never had a reaction three days later. I would think
it's a bug. There are some illnesses going around right now.

- Hi, This is a very normal amount of time for a reaction. If she has
been gf for a substantial amount of time, say 3-6 months, her body has
adjusted to this and she will become more sensitive. People often have
differences in their reactions, but for me three days is about my
standard for gastrointestinal reaction (vomiting, diarrhea, nausea),
however my fatigue, brain fog, and headaches can last upward of a week.
I hate to keep rattling, but I was told by a friend (gf 1+ year), who
was accidentally glutened and had symptoms for two weeks, that a blood
test showed intestinal damage an entire month later. Taking L-glutamine
supplements has been shown to speed up intestinal damage, and would
probably be a good thing to have around since I know that people tend to
mindlessly feed children gluten-containing snacks. I hope this helps
some and she feels better soon, best wishes.

- I'd be interested in knowing the responses you get. I've noticed that
the longer I've been GF, the longer it takes to have symptoms, which is
why it's so difficult to pinpoint the exact food that caused the
problem. 3
days seems like a long time from ingestion but everyone's different so
you never know.
I hope your daughter feels well soon.

- I wanted to tell you that we think my 5 1/2 year old daughter reacts
about 2-3 days after getting gluten. We would always figure it out
afterwards when she would get sick. Hope that helps.

- IMO, it's more likely to be a bug or recent food poisoning. Virtually
all people react within 24 hours and almost none take longer than 48.
And it seems (I have no scientific proof of this) that people who vomit,
generally do so rather quickly.

- As an adult I have up to 5 days of a gluten relation after an
accidental ingestion.  The last one I had was when I found a few crumbs
of croutons on the bottom of my salad.  It does not take much.

- Yes, it could take 3 days as this is an autoimmune response not an
allergy--at least that is what my husband an M.D. said when I had a
delay in my reaction. He thought that more likely than it being
immediate. Of course I am an adult and the reaction may be different in
kids.

- I certainly have heard of gluten reactions hitting 12-36 hours later.
Perhaps they  can also occur 3 days later. I don't get GI problems and
my reaction takes 12-24 hours.

*Please provide references to back up claims of a product being GF or not GF*
