 Biochemically speaking I can't imagine gluten being in hydrogenated
vegetable oil no matter what the source. I don't know of any oils used
commercially that are derived from wheat, barley, rye or oats, but even if
they were, gluten is still a protein and oil is a fat. I too am from
Edmonton and know that in Canada hydrogenated vegetable oils are considered
to be safe (not from a cardiovascular point of view however). I wonder about
the controversey in the States.
