I'm trying to find out if people have had any luck getting lab tests done
through enterolab covered by medical insurance, primarily an HMO. We have
Harvard Pilgrim and I'm wondering if they would cover any of the testing for
my 5 year old son. He has had the blood work done twice, both negative. I
think he's intolerant, but tests say otherwise. The pediatrician says I
should just make him GF, after all, I'm already doing that for my daughter
and it's not so hard. Well, it is hard. My daughter is not like the celiac
kids I read about. She was diagnosed when she was only 15months old and
although this is the only lifestyle she has known she still has MAJOR issues
with having CD. Although she doesn't *cheat* she does hate the disease and
have pity-parties, big time! I don't want my son to resent her or us for
making him GF, although our home is 90% GF. It's hard with school (he
starts kindergarten in September) and parties, and playdates. His sometimes
are the gelatinous stools and gas. We alternate with the GF diet because he
says he does get a tummy ache with the buns on the burgers, but this time
he's been GF for about a month and he still has gassy times and I'm
wondering if maybe it's not CD or intolerance to gluten but maybe something
else. So that's why I'm considering the enterolab testing. If anyone out
there has experience getting insurance to cover this, I'd love to hear how
to go about it.
Thanks so much!
