I would like to summarize my post concerning Bob Evans not heating my
food. Boy, did I ever "open a hornet's nest" with this problem!
Briefly, for those who may not have read my original message, I stopped
at Bob Evans with my 92 year old mother for a quick meal. Because of some
medical tests, she had not eaten for 6 hours and after she had ordered, I
asked for some food I had with me to be heated in my sealed container.
This other restaurant in the Bob Evans chair had gladly agreed many times
before but this time the waitress and manager both refused. So we left
and went home. The next day I reported the situation to them via their
web site. Now my summary. I received 22 responses, 9 agreeing with me,
11 saying in so many words, they would never think of doing this, and 2
saying our celiac disease is a recognized disability and is covered under
the Americans with Disabilities Act. Two persons said they had
experienced the exact same problem in other states. Bob Evans district
manager called me and I was able to explain my side of the issue and the
cross-contamination problem, which he didn't see as a problem. His
attitude was confrontational but he did have the manager call me later
and said in the future to have the server contact him and they would heat
my food. They both asked why I didn't try just ordering a plain salad
and adding my own dressing? I answered I once tried it that way and was
sick before I got home! The manager replied maybe it was because in the
food prep area, the croutons are sitting right next to the plain salads.
Duh, that is what I mean by contamination in your kitchen! No response,
but, he said to contact him the next time! So to those of you who are
not very sensitive to gluten and messy kitchens, congratulations and
enjoy yourselves in places with a gluten free menu! I, on the other
hand, am extremely sensitive to gluten and always take my own food when
eating out with my friends and family.
