Thank you SO much for all the input. I feel much more confident now in making a decision. Blessings to each of you!

I have had several in my lifetime and I have had CD since 96 and DH since 92. (not put on a g/f diet)
I had a loose tooth in my bottom front teeth and they had to remove two teeth and put in a bridge
because the bone structure was missing. The root canalled teeth are doing OK.
I'm no expert and I'm not a medical person.

I've had two root canals with no problems. Of the people I know who
have had problems, none had any systemic illnesses. Some were in a
good bit of pain and some eventually had to have the tooth pulled,
but their health wasn't in danger. I'm sure there are exceptions,
just as there are with any surgery.

My problem with Mercola is that if you avoided every medication,
medical procedure, food, food additive and manufactured product he
warns us about, you'd spend most of your time getting ulcers over
what you're swallowing, drinking, eating, wearing, sleeping in, and
breathing. That's not how I want to live my life.

I've had a couple of root canals. Later on, one tooth cracked at the root and became infected so it had to be removed. I had a bridge placed there and absolutely hated it. Also, they must redo the teeth on both sides, so a tooth that was in good condition is now half gone for the bridge support.
I ended up having the bridge cut apart and a dental implant placed for the missing tooth (new dentist & endotist). It ended up costing me double and my teeth in worse condition. I would recommend the root canal if it will work for you. I am a grinder so I probably put too much pressure on the cracked tooth.

I had a root canal - and subsequent pain and illness
because (I believe) it was not needed.
That was in 2000. That region of my mouth never recovered.
For ~ 4 years it was sensitive to the touch. It rarely
bothers me these days.

The idea behind a root canal is that many of the nerves
are already dead due to previous infection/damage. So the
pain should not last more than a week post surgery. My
pain level in the weeks following the procedure was so
severe I ended up in the ER unable to open my mouth.
Although it was not "lockjaw" it was bad. I believe that
all of the nerves under that tooth were healthy before
they were "dug out" (perhaps I just needed a cavity filled
or something) and the surgery caused severe trauma.

I promised myself then that I would never get another root
canal until after seeing several specialists and hearing
their collected opinions. Too many dentists are ready to
dive right into a root canal.

i got a root canal almost a year ago after having continuing problems and infections. i've been really happy with the results- no problems at all. so the expense was worth it, in my opinion. plus i get to keep all of my teeth and that's really important to me. good luck.

I have had 8 root canals. I recommend getting them. I have not had any
lasting systemic illnesses. If I had had them all pulled...where would I be
now? Real teeth is so much better than fake teeth, bridges etc.
