Below is the message I posted the other day:

"I just found a waffle ice cream cone maker at this website:
http://www.kitchenetc.com/Products.cfm?sku Has anyone tried using one of
these? It's $50 but knowing that this product is available, perhaps
it's possible to find less expensive sources. Theres a recipe in the
archives that suggests using a krumkake iron (or taking the batter to an
ice cream shop to have them make the cones). This device might pay for
itself in a short time: a box of cones I bought yesterday cost $7!"

A few people asked what brand ice cream cone I bought and where- they're
Barkat and I found them at our great Wegman's supermarket here in NY
state. I haven't tried them yet. I wish I could keep them fresh in the
car so I could get a cone from an ice cream shop whenever the mood arose!

Here are posts in response to the query about the waffle cone maker- people
did indeed find them more cheaply elsewhere, and used a pizzelle maker as
an alternative:

I have one and love it! I bought mine at Fred Meyers for $25 so check
around first.

---

I saw a waffle cone maker at WalMart about 6 weeks ago in their seasonal
items isles. I was so tempted to get it!!! I don't remember the cost but I
don't think it was $50 and of course WalMart usually beats anybody elses
prices.

----

I bought a Rival waffle cone maker at Wal Mart for $19.99. It comes with
a recipe that works! Just add some xanthan gum and gelatin, perhaps a
little extra baking soda. But be careful! You may find yourself making
them daily. They taste good! But, you MUST put them in airtight plastic
container/baggie when they cool, as they don't hold up well for long in
the open air.

They come with their own plastic cone you wrap the waffle around. Fun and
easy!

My gluten eating husband says they don't taste like they are missing anything

If you have a pizzelle maker you can make pizzelles using cornstarch instead
of wheat flour. When the cookie comes out it is pliable. Roll into cone
shape and secure with a clothespin. To plug the "hole" in the bottom of the
cone - stick a miniature marshmallow in before adding the ice cream. (This
idea was attributed to Martha Stewart in another e-mail I received).

---

I bought a pizzelle (?--thin Italian cookies, I believe) maker some time ago
that said it could be used for waffle comes. Unfortunately, I haven't tried
it yet... Found it it Walmart on clearance at Christmas for about $6...It has
teflon grids w/ a flower pattern & should work. -

Thanks, folks-
