Dear ListServe Friends,

Does anyone know if any of the celiac or allergy organizations maintain
a list of food and drug companies who are committed to full labeling?
(I consider full labeling to mean clearly labeling any ingredients that
contain the 8 major allergens PLUS rye and barley if they are present
in any form.)

I know there is the legislative effort to require labeling of the 8
major allergens (not rye or barley) and I know there is the delphi list
which contains information about gluten content in food. However, this
is a different approach than what I am interested in.

I personally prefer to purchase food from companies who, as a matter of
doing business, provide complete labeling, so I know when I read the
label whether I can purchase a product for our family and don't have to
make the calls, check the lists, and write emails. Trader Joe's store
brand and the Safeway store brands are two who voluntarily provide full
labeling (not sure if they label for barley and rye, however) and I
know there are others.

If nobody is already actively collecting and publicizing information
about the responsible companies who voluntarily provide full labeling,
I would like to participate in an effort to do so in a systematic way
and possibly put together a website containing this information so we
can give these companies good publicity and also make our lives easier!!

I would like your feedback on this concept. If you think it is a good
idea, let me know -- I would love to work with others on this. If
someone is already doing it, let me know and I will support their
efforts. If it has been tried and failed or you think it is a dumb
idea, let me know so I can learn.

I will summarize.
