The first big hurdle has been cleared, and legislation to improve food
labeling is now moving in the U.S. Senate.

The leadership provided by the ACTF members ensured Senators heard a
focused message. ACTF members met regularly with legislators,
Congressional staff, and interest groups. Without these targeted
efforts, the needs of the celiac community would never have been
considered in the process.

By working closely with key staff, the ACTF helped forge a food
allergen labeling bill which goes far beyond spices and flavorings.

In the months ahead, more work will need to be done. We look forward
to the continued support and assistance of the celiac community to pass
meaningful food labeling legislation in 2004.
