I received several emails about my post concerning NYC Bd of Health banning canola oil. The ban has been in effect for the past year. I saw the letter sent to all restaurants and even a letter send from Burger King to its NYC stores telling them where to get the fat used in frying in order to comply with the NYC regulation.

I have been gf for over twenty years. When first diagnosed I was interested to learn that the Canadian govern't warned that canola oil..actually rapeseed also used for bird seed..was not gf because it was grown on fallow wheat fields and was therefore contaminated from the ground up. They have wavered back and forth since then, but I stay away from canola just in case it is not gf....just don't trust it. The saturated fat issue is just icing on the cake.
