It took me TWO years to get a doctor to even refer me to a specialist and
only that after he thought just maybe I had irritable bowel syndrome. The
specialist also refused to believe I had celiac sprue because it onset in
adulthood and I am overweight - which, since I've been on the diet has gotten
under control because I'm no longer feeling starved all the time. Anyway,
the specialist reluctantly agreed to do the biopsy only after I said my
mother has this. Lo and behold - I have celiac sprue disease. No one was
more surprised than the specialist. What are they teaching in medical
school?
