Coeliacs need to be even more vigilant than the rest of the population in
regard to gum health. We can suffer from malabsorption of Vitamin C and
calcium leading to osteoporosis (bone loss from the jaw) and receding gums.
General advice: take vitamin C up to a gram/daily and 400 units of Vitamin
E., use an electric toothbrush and have periodontic cleaning at least
annually. If you are told you need surgery, get a second opinion. Also
make sure your dentist/periodontist uses powder free gloves, the powder
contains gluten. Thank you for all your replies.

Katherine Goldman.
