My husband and I are both on a gluten free diet (I am celiac and he is
gluten intolerant ) and I wanted to take him to a really nice restaurant for
his birthday. We went to the Powow River Grille in Amesbury Massachusetts
and had the most amazing meal. We started off with the Lobster, crab and
coconut Bisque (gluten and dairy free) and the poached pear salad (hold the
blue cheese please). For a main course he had the catch of the day - grilled
swordfish with carmelized onions and garlic mashed potatoes. I had the pan
seared scallops with a bed of braised cabbage and rice pilaf served with
three sauces - an olive tapenade, citrus basil aioli and roasted squash
salsa. We had called ahead (978-388-2300) and they made my husband a
chocolate flourless torte for his birthday cake. The staff was great and
the owner-chef Francis Broadbery explained every dish we ordered and how it
was prepared. He said that they have quite a few clients with food
intolerances. I would highly recommend this restaurant to fellow celiacs as
a great place for a romantic meal - well above the ordinary faire we usually
get as celiacs.
I can't wait to try their sister restaurant the Plum Island Grille in
Newburyport.
