Hello list members. Need your expertise and advice. Background: I have
three kids; two are diagnosed celiacs, the third child has alopecia areata
(an autoimune condition which causes hair loss) which has reversed itself
upon a gf diet. My husband has had gi symptoms of gas, diarreah, rumbling
uncomfortable belly for years, and mentioned this (finally!) to a family
doctor yesterday. The family doctor wrote out orders for my husband to
have an "endoscopy" and a "colonoscopy". My husband was not referred to a
gi doc, just given these orders to take to a lab to have the procedures
done. I'm concerned that they might not biopsy and therefore not be able
to get the necessary information to diagnose cd. My question is: is there
only one type of endoscopy, which will include the necessary biopsy samples
to test for celiac disease, or is there a more general type of endoscopy in
which they will just go in, look around, and tell him everything looks ok.

P.s. please don't tell me he should have taken care of this years ago....I
already know that. I also highly suspect he does have celiac; I'm not the
person who needs convincing here, so don't waste breath preaching at the
choir :-). Many thanks, Lynn
