Thank you to all who responded to my question on what to do for a major
gluten reaction. I got 46 responses! First of all, I should have explained
that I never had the "normal" celiac disease symptoms before diagnosis. The
only reason it was discovered was I had an endoscopy to see why I was so
anemic, with a hemoglobin of 8. I never had diahrrea or any stomach
problems of any kind, but I had been on prescription meds for sinusitus,
headaches and asthma for years. They sent me for allergy testing, which
came back negative. When I started the gluten-free diet, my lungs and
sinuses cleared up and I haven't been on anything since. So, obviously my
reaction to gluten does include congestion and headaches.

These are the responses to my question:

5 thought I did not have a gluten rea
ction, but an allergic reaction, since
it came on so quickly.

6 thought I should drink lots of water to flush my system.

2 said to take Rolaids
2 recommended Pepto-Bismol
4 for Alka-Seltzer Gold
5 for Papaya Enzymes
4 said to make myself throw-up, while 2 said DON'T!

1 thought I may have had a gall bladder attack
3 take baking soda and water
2 take Vetratrum Alb 30cc, a homeopathic remedy
Other single suggestions were:

Activated charcoal, Levbed (prescription), Motrin, Pepcid, Gaviscon,
Librax, Previcid, Zantac, Metamucil, a coffee enema, peppermint in
either pill of tea form and using a laxative to flush out my system 9
people said DO NOT TAKE TUMS!! They're not gluten-free!!

I guess I'll be more careful about eating out from now on, drink a lot of
water if I start feeling a reaction coming on and talk to my doctor for his
recommendation!
