Hello all:

I'm fairly new to whole concept of celiac disease. I
was diagnosed about two years ago by Kaiser who at
that point could not tell me a lot about it. Their
answers were "look on the Internet". Well as you
probably know the Internet can be conflicting when it
comes to celiac disease. I recently got in to see a
gastroentrologist with my new health insurance (which
took a long 8 months of fighting). I had many
questions for this doctor, hoping he could fill in the
blanks. One of my concerns to him was my weight gain.

His answer to that was that many of his other patients
will ingest gluten to control their weight. My jaw
nearly dropped to the floor. I could not believe that
he was telling me this. I asked why anyone would want
to do that because it is so painful (for me anyway). I
don't see that as being the answer I was looking for!!

I also asked him about Lymphoma and the risks, if they
were higher for celiacs. He said it still is not
proven but if I were to get it...it's real treatable.

Another answer I was not expecting! Has anyone else
experienced this with their doctors or did I just find
a "QUACK". Where do I go from here when it comes to
finding the right doctor?

Any advise is appreciated!

Betsy
