I've seen many posts from those concerned about what items are GF. Maybe I
can share what I know after being diagnosed for 9 mos. and having seen
significant improvement.

There are several resources - the wide variety of books available on celiac
(Bette Hagman's books, Jax Peters Lowell's "Against the Grain", etc.),
local support groups, national groups, etc. CAUTION - info can be outdated
very quickly! Especially with books' references to certain products.
Books are a good source of general info. It is always safest to check
directly with the manufacturer on any product.

In general, I have found www.celiac.com to have a fairly accurate list. My
main resource now is at www.delphiforums.com. Look for the Celiac Disease
Online Support Group. A large group of celiacs maintain a list of GF items
and periodically update them. It is impossible to make sure every item is
updated (and you'll see that on the lists!) but you can always post a
message in the "Product Questions" folder and ask. The latest update date
is listed with a product.

Questions were raised about butter, peanut butter, etc.  Pure butter is GF;
the spreads MAY contain additives which are not. Same with Peanut Butter
and Cottage Cheese. It's often the preservatives, additives, emulsifiers,
etc. that are not GF. Always read the labels and check with the
manufacturers :)

Cheers,
Pat
