Dear Listmates -
I have no financial interest in this product.
I'm just glad there is something my delicate gut can tolerate.
Last Fall, I went to an endocrinologist at U of Chicago who
is a bone density specialist. He wanted me to take Actonel 35 mg
weekly. Unfortnately, I have such a reactive digestive system, and so many
allergic/adverse reactions, I didn't dare start with a 35 mg dose, and
you can't
break Actonel to take less, because there is a coating. The broken end
would
have no coating and could cause problems. That coating protects the
digestive
system. He wouldn't give me the 5 mg daily Actonel instead, either.
I can also get reflux and sometimes things pop back up, so all the more
reason
to start with the smaller daily dose of something. I always have to
proceed with caution.
So, when I went for my annual physical to my internal medicine doctor, I
explained my dilemma.
He handed my a sample bottle of Fosamax oral suspension, a weekly
liquid dose, and a prescription for it, but told me to get a medicine
spoon and take 1/7 of the weekly dose per day - which is about 10 or 11
ml per day, about 2 teaspoons,
with a lot of water, instead of taking the whole weekly dose at once.
I asked my pharmacist if would matter whether I took 1/7 of the bottle
followed immediately by water, or if I dump the dose in water and
drink it that way, and there is no difference.
Problem solved. My reactions are very mild. I don't mind taking a daily
product, since I take it and then shower. It doesn't inconvienience me
to be upright 1/2 hour after taking it.
Vicki
