My husband and I enjoy eating out frequently and I refuse to let my
CD put a halt to this pleasurable experience we share.
Problem is...... I grill the food manager or waitperson regarding
the GF status of items on the menu, then may not go back to that same
restaurant for weeks and tend to forget which items were OK. Then...I have
to ask all over again! What I have been doing recently has been working
out great!
I ask for a take-out menu when we arrive and then use it to take
notes on all the research on GF status of the items that my restaurant
helper gives me. I check off the selections that are GF and I make note of
the ones that can be altered for me. Once we return home, this menu is
filed with other take-out menus I have collected (and noted) elsewhere.
When we return to that same restaurant, I bring along my take-out
menu with my "GF notes". Now, I can use it to select from the narrowed
down choices which have already been researched. I DO make it a point
when I place my order, however, to double check that the GF status of that
particular item has not changed since my last visit.
This system sure makes restaurant life a LOT more pleasant,
ESPECIALLY if we visit the restaurant later with friends. I no longer have
to do the million and one questions in front others, which always makes me
uncomfortable.
