Some years ago there was talk in the US of coating fresh vegetables with
wheat starch. People protested and the idea died. Then five years ago I
bought some imported sugar snap peas and had a celiac reaction. I figured
that it had been coated with wheat starch to keep it fresher longer, and
being imported it wasn't covered by US regulations. Since I rarely eat
imported sugar snaps, and generally only eat them when locally in season, I
since forgot about it. Then recently I had a couple of reactions. The first
one I blamed on how the chef had warmed up the trout. Then the second time
I had nothing to blame it on, but realized I had eaten a few sugar snaps
from the salad bar, as I had the time before. A conversation with
management confirmed that the sugar snaps were imported.

So my request is to hear if other people had noticed something wrong with
imported sugar snaps. I am not interested in getting stories, but a yes or
no which I can tabulate into a short summary.

Don.
