If you are taking a bone building medication, you might want to read more about this on the internet.

Articles I read say it is very difficult to treat once you get it. I remember reading that they recommended you get root canal to avoid getting teeth pulled so that you avoid this complication. Going off the bone building medicine doesn't help the jaw bone heal once this happens.

Maybe gargling with an antiseptic mouthwash like Scope might help get rid of any possible infection? It is gluten-free. I had the pain you describe from infection. I gargled 3 times a day, and within 2 days the infection cleared up. It might be worth a try?

Meanwhile, you should call your dentist about the pain.

Did they give you systemic antibiotics with the root canal? They should
to avoid risk of blood infection from seepage of the infection.

It is not uncommon to have infection following rootcanal, and in my Dad's
case, it only lasted about 5 yrs then the 'dead' tooth broke off. We had
a friend who lost hearing because of an infected root canal, which lead to
an inner ear infection (which he was too slow to treat, thinking it was a
cold). There is also the possibility of getting infection in the jaw or
mastoids. I don't plan to have one. Many times they put a cap over it.

If you get a bridge, be careful you get one that won't erode the natural
teeth on either side of the gap; my mother in law had problems with that.
Porcelain on steel is harder than the real tooth and can cause tooth wear.
Mercola has always had good stuff, you might also look up bridgework on the
internet to learn the down sides of that. There are probably some types
that are safer than others.

I have had a root canal done and had a difficult time afterward to the
point it was infected and had to be redone. But....I am not a celiac.
My son is the reason I am on the list as he is a celiac.

My point is that anyone can have sensitivity or an issue after a root
canal not necessarily someone with celiac disease.

Also you can get infection from extractions as well and bridges are
generally hard to fit comfortably.

I would believe the root canal by a good dentist would be the best
choice. Speak to him/her about taking antibiotics to prevent
infection.

If done properly, bacteria doesn't remain. If it does, it will create pressure (CO2) and you will be in pain...That's why they put a temporary filling in & you come back later for the final installation of the crown...It makes sure everything is okay & they don't have to open them up again to relieve the pressure & reclean the canal.

I didn't know what to expect the first time I had it done & it obviously wasn't cleaned out well because the pressure caused INTENSE pain about a day later...(Never get a root canal done on a Friday unless you have the dentist's emergency contact #....Little did I know and I suffered until Monday. Had I known a vent would have relieved the pain, I would have found a way to pick it out myself!!!!)

A bridge has the potential for a poor fit, which can cause gum irritation that could allow infection to enter. Bone mass changes over time and teeth shift, hopefully remaining in line tops over bottom for good chewing. There is also the potential for poor healing/bone regrowth when teeth come out....
