Hi,

We have been watching with amazement the number of coliacs out there who
are on this mailing list and wonder whether anyone has come across what we
did today?????

My husband was diagnosed as a coeliac through a biopsy in May 1992 and we
have been mostly (99% I would say) gluten/wheat free ever since. The
gasteroenterologist told us at the time that he should try and re-introduce
wheat after about six months but he was still reacting and so we just
decided to keep on with the diet for however long it took. During the
course of the last 12 months he noticed that his tolerance had increased
and he was able to eat the odd sauce or sausage and had no bad effects ie
no diarrohea or pain. However, about 2 weeks ago he visited an allergy
specialist here in Auckland to see if he could test his tolerance. He was
very negative about him eating anything that contained wheat and explained
the dangers. Point taken and we have been back being REALLY careful again
until today when he went back to the dr to get the results of the blood
tests and they showed, surprisingly, that he had no wheat allergy at all.
One would assume that it was a misdiagnosis in the first place, however, it
was diagnosed by biopsy and secondly he was totally well (after about 12
months of dreadful health) after going Gfree.

Now we don't know what to think!!!

Has anyone out there had a similar experience????

We look forward to any response
