One repondent reported similar success with putting the bread in the
refrigerator.

Two respondents warned me that once mold shows up, it has spread
throughout the entire loaf. To which I say that all bacterial and mold
growth starts from microscopic amounts and that the amount of mold present
in the rest of the loaf is much smaller.
