Hi Everyone,

The White House petition to finalize the gluten-free labeling rule just topped 35,000 signatures! To the extent that we can peer into the big black box that is the U.S. regulatory process, we are encouraged that the rule is moving along. The settlement between the Department of Justice and Lesley University may add impetus to the labeling issue. How can universities comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act in accommodating students with celiac disease if they cannot determine which products are gluten-free? (see http://www.celiaccommunity.org/advocacy/)

The White House promises to respond to petitions on its website that reach 25,000 signatures within 30 days. Ours reached that threshold in early November within the deadline. We are awaiting an official response.

Thanks to everyone who has already signed the petition! Until the final rule is published by the administration, keep on spreading the word about signing the petition. It is on the White House website "We the People." Government link: http://tinyurl.com/GF-labels

Sincerely,

Jennifer Iscol
