Responses to my post indicate a variety of possible causes of inconsistent blood pressure, specifically with sudden drops in pressure, called Orthostatic Hypotension. This condition can stem from a variety of cardiac or neurogenic causes or be drug induced. The following URLs provide a wealth of details:
  1.. http://www.aafp.org/afp/20031215/2393.html
  2.. http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/orthostatic_hypotension/orthostatic_hypotension.htm
  3.. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/orthostatic-hypotension/DS00997
  4.. http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/medical/orthostatic.html

Specific causes cited in the responses were:

1.. Cardioneurogenic Syndrome, also called Neurocardiogenic Syncopy (syncope = fainting) or Vasovagal Syndrome (see http://www.aafp.org/afp/20000401/tips/9.html)
2.. insufficient output from the adrenal glands -- which can have an indirect cause such as an overload of the system due to other conditions or a direct cause such as Addison's Disease, an autoimmune condition incidence of which has recently been shown to have a correlation with celiac disease
3.. celiac disease (hypotension listed as a symptom CD at: http://www.csaceliacs.org/celiac_diagnosis.php and http://www.e-celiacs.org/2%20Celiac%20Disease_in_Adults.htm, with the latter specifying sudden drops in blood pressure due to adrenal insufficiency)
  4.. dehydration
5.. excessive caffeine and insufficient sleep
6.. insufficient sodium intake -- or insufficient absorption of sodium through the villi
  7.. low blood sugar

Specific examples cited by respondents include:

1.. high blood pressure punctuated by fainting spells due to Cardio-Neurogenic Syndrome or Vaso-Vagal Syndrome treated with Florinef
2.. insufficient adrenal output treated with Drenamin and increased salt intake
3.. Neuro-Cardiogenic Syncopy, Vasa Vagil with orthostatic hypotension, treated with mododrene
4.. insufficient adrenal output due to an overtaxed lymphatic system, treated with nutritional supplements pantethine and calcium AEP (amino ethanol phosphate), along with a regular detoxing regimen

Thanks to all who responded. Your replies were very helpful and informative.
